I think it’s safe to say that shit is a little weird right now. The world hasn’t seen anything like this, for a hundred years and it could stay weird for the foreseeable future. On the scale of what’s important, missing your monthly skin treatment obviously won’t destroy your life, but it still sucks. Some would think that owning a little skin boutique would mean that I get regular treatments, but somehow that doesn’t happen. What I found was easier for my schedule was doing a home treatment once a week. Once a week, I take a bath and give myself a home facial. It’s my little self-pampering night. Well, actually I do bathe more often than once a week, but on that one night I treat myself with a facial.

I close the bathroom door (trapping as much steam as possible at the bath fills). I fill a hot bath and add a tsp of oil. I use sweet almond oil, but coconut, olive, avocado… anything will work. While the bath is filling, I start with Dermalogica’s Precleanse on dry skin. I massage it into my skin the entire time the bath is filling. This gives the cleanser a thorough chance to melt all the gunk that collected on my face during the day (make-up, sunscreen, pollution). Just about the time my bath is ready I add a little water to the Precleanse and continue to massage my face to emulsify the Precleanse. When the bath is ready, I follow with a second cleanse using Dermalogica’s Intensive Moisture Cleanser to help alleviate my naturally dry skin.

For a deeper exfoliation, I follow with Dermalogica’s Rapid Reveal Peel. I massage it into the skin for 4-7 minutes and rinse with cool water. It’s tempting to rinse with bath water, but it’s too hot and will make your face hotter. Just turn on the tap and rinse with cool. By the time I’ve finished my bath, my skin is clean, soft, and exfoliated. My next step is a masque. Since doing extractions on yourself isn’t a good idea – even if you’re a trained esthetician, I use Dermalogica’s Charcoal Rescue Masque, a multi-tasking masque that detoxifies and brightens my skin (Caution: If you have an allergy to sulfur, this isn’t the masque for you. Instead I would recommend Dermalogica’s Hydrating Masque – It’s my other favorite). After I rinse the masque, I tone with Dermalogica’s Antioxidant Hydramist, and layer Dermalogica’s Multivitamin Power Serum, a nutrient-rich retinol serum, and Dermalogica’s Intensive Moisture balance as my night cream. My skin is always a little pink by the time it’s done, but when I wake up my skin is hydrated and glowing. Obviously, I’ve chosen these products because they are the best for my particular skin type.

We may not be able to meet in person for the foreseeable future, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have phone or FaceTime appointments. While our doors are closed, those who book a free phone/FaceTime consultation will receive 20% off products they order for their own weekly home treatment.
I look forward to seeing your beautiful faces again soon.
