The Norwex Body Cloth Challenge

This summer I took part in a 7-day Norwex Body Cloth Challenge.  Founded in 1994, Norwex is a multi-level marketing company that offer eco-friendly cleaning solutions.  They specialize in high-quality, anti-bacterial microfiber cloths that pick-up particles and organisms, reducing or elimination the need for toxic cleaning chemicals.  I first became aware of Norwex almost 10 years ago when I started my career as an esthetician and began attending local networking mixers.  Vanessa, a local rep, did a demonstration where she smeared raw chicken juice on a surface, tested the surface for bacteria and protein, then wiped it clean with a damp Norwex cloth.  When she retested the area, the test came back clean.  I loved it.  I had only recently started paying attention to the chemicals I used on or around my body, so I scooped up several Norwex products, and was honestly satisfied with every one of my purchases.  Since then, Norwex has expanded to personal care items such as facial and body care, toothpaste, deodorant, as well as many other household items like laundry detergent and dish washer powder.

This summer I saw that Vanessa was hosting a virtual Facebook challenge with the Norwex Body Cloth.  The idea was to use no soap, body wash, cleanser, exfoliant, or shave gels for seven days and report back with the results.  As a lover of science experiments and a common guinea pig in my own experiments, I jumped at the chance to get involved.  She dropped off a cloth the very next day.

That particular week, our usual temperate coastal weather was unusually hot (high 90’s!!!), humid, and thick with smoke from the over 300 fires burning across the state of California.  I knew I was in for a stinky week and doubted the cloth could handle it.

The first night felt weird using the cloth and nothing else to wash my face and body.  I never realized how satisfying soap suds were until they were not.  I missed my face wash and wondered if my face was actually going to get clean.  I exited the shower, dried off, and to my surprise, I was clean (face and body) and smelled fresh.

By day 4, the cloth was still beating the stink.  By the evening, if I was getting stinky, I would use the wet body cloth and spot clean my pits before bed.  Again, it did the job and I went to bed feeling clean.

Even though the cloth was getting my face clean, I was missing my creamy, hydrating facial cleanser.  My skin is naturally bone dry and I’m at the end of my second trimester of pregnancy so my skin has been even dryer than usual.

By day 7, I was completely sold on the cloth.  I no longer missed my suds in the shower and was confident the cloth was capable of handling the hottest and stinkiest body.  I was craving some gentle facial exfoliation and looked forward to getting back to my usual facial routine, but at no point did the cloth feel like it wasn’t removing the make-up and grime from the day.

I ended up purchasing a set of three make-up removing cloths and 2 sets of three body cloths for $21.99 a set.  I’ll be reviewing the make-up removing cloth after I’ve used it for a while.
